How does God lead a boy who was born in Germany and came to the United States as a refugee? How did he grow up in Boston to become one of the most influential Christian leaders in the Northeast and beyond for fifty-years? This is the story of Father Jurgen Liias, a Catholic priest with roots in the Episcopalian priesthood. His love for God reflects the care received from someone who took his family in when they first arrived from Germany. A love Jurgen radiates to “others,” as Jesus said in John 13:34.
Father Jurgen Liias was the founding pastor of St. Gregory the Great Church and now serves as the Senior Priest of St. Patrick’s Parish in Stoneham. He graduated from Amherst College and the Episcopal Theological School. He previously served parishes in Danvers, Hamilton, Malden, and in downtown Boston. Jurgen and his wife Gloria have two grown children and three grandchildren.
Scripture: John 13:34 Jesus said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
