Greek philosopher Socrates said, “He is a man of courage who does not run away, but remains at his post and fights against the enemy.” It is a rare quality, especially so when it comes to religious convictions that stem as far out into our every day lives – particularly in our families and our careers. Our guest today has held fast to his faith in Jesus Christ amdist tumultuous times. And when you see him on television and hear him speak it is beyond his eloquence, but, the quality of character – and the clarity that comes from one who is grounded in the Lord!
Tenari R. Ma’afala is no stranger to Hawai’i. He is a proud Samoan born and raised in Honolulu in both Nakatani and Mayor Wright’s housing. He started his career with The Honolulu Police Department as an officer in 1989, and is still serving in that capacity today. In addition to his duties as an officer, he is an active volunteer and current President of the State of Hawai’i Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO). In 1985, he received and accepted JESUS CHRIST as his Lord and Personal Savior. He was embarrassed and ashamed for not loving and serving God as he felt he should have in his earlier years, but now is so very grateful that he serves and honors a most loving, gracious, and forgiving spiritual father. Tenari acknowledges that it is God who has pursued him all along and allowed him to receive Christ’s love and mercy, that He gives so freely. In his spare time, he enjoys basketball, football, golfing, and surfing. He also enjoys playing music, mostly Gospel, Motown, and R&B. Tenari has been married to his beautiful and loving wife Tracy for 24 years, and is a proud father to three daughters, Tiare, Tiani, and Tiana.
