Yoshitaka Fujinami was born and raised in Kishiwada, Osaka Japan, and at age 21 became a believer through the ministry of Kishiwada Bible Church. As a student in Ames, Iowa, he felt called to vocational Christian service through the ministry of Campus Baptist Church. Since 2003, Yoshi has been serving Kalihi Union Church as the minister of Japanese Fellowship which was established in 1947 due to the urgent need to evangelize Japanese immigrants in their mother tongue. His desire is to equip Japanese-speaking believers at KUC with a solid biblical foundation in order for them to become a vital part of the life of the local church and be involved in outreach ministries for the residents of Hawaii as well as for the unreached in Japan.
Pastor Yoshi received his B.A. in Pastoral Studies at the Moody Bible Institute prior to coming to Hawaii to serve at Makiki Christian Church as Director of Older Adults Ministry. During the years he served at Makiki, he married their pianist, Yumi. When their oldest was one, they left for Dallas Theological Seminary where Yoshi earned a Master of Theology in Pastoral Leadership and New Testament Studies and ordained by Scofield Memorial Church in Dallas, 2003. He and Yumi have three sons, Joseph, Benjamin and Elliott.
