How important is faith in God? David Kawika Kaiupileokalani Kahiapo is a master of ki ho’alu (Hawaiian slack key) guitar. He joins us today with his wife Laurie. On his latest CD, Kawaiola – Living Water, he writes, “I thought I had it all together. But really, I have been as broken, flawed, and disoriented as any local boy from Hawaii could be…We struggled through hardships, financial woes, and emotional ups and downs…one thing is for sure. We would not be where we are today without our faith in God.” Does faith in God make a difference in our lives today?
Kawika Kahiapo has been a professional musician since he was a teen, having won multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, and is also on a Grammy Award-winning CD. Laurie is an administrator for Kawika’s music business. Over the last 7 years, she has worked with students at Blanche Pope Elementary School, using gardening as a means to teach about Hawaiian culture and values. Kawika and Laurie have been married for 37 years. They have five children, and three grandchildren. They live in Waimanalo.
