Have you ever gone to church feeling like you have to pretend? People are smiling but you feel horrible inside? Perhaps you are overwhelmed by sorrow or sense of doom? A dark clouds looms over you while it seems the sun is shining on everyone else. Does the Bible speak to us in those times? There is a word that is rarely used in churches today, that provides a biblical and practical way to respond. “Lament.” Psalm 22:3 says, “O my God, I cry out day by day…” Dr. Sean McDonough joins us to explain more.

Dr. Sean McDonough is a professor of New Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He arrived from Pacific Theological College in Suva, Fiji, where he served as the Chair of the Biblical Studies Department and as a lecturer in New Testament. He earned his bachelor’s in history from Harvard College, his Master of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees are from Gordon Conwell and his Ph.D. is from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. He is married to Ariana. They have four adult children.

Scripture: John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
