How does God take a young man who had never been to church and transform his heart during his senior year at the Universiy of Hawaii into a devoted follower of Jesus Christ? That is part of the incredible story of Pastor Glenn Yamaguchi. He graduated with a degree in Business but pursued the calling to expand God’s Kingdom with Campus Crusade for Christ. During that time, God placed in him a desire to start a faith community where love would flow freely and people were a voice of hope. Desiring to be better equipped to serve the Lord, he moved to California where he earned his Master of Divinity degree from Talbot School of Theology. Glenn then returned to Hawaii and met the love of his life, Rika. They have three children Jacob, Sarah and Mark. In 1999 he gathered a group of eleven friends in a living room in Ewa and began New Hope Kapolei. Glenn loves fishing, epic movies, hanging out with friends and family in his spare time…and coffee.
A timeless African Proverb says, “Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.” Someone once defined the word “Wisdom” in this simple way. “Wisdom is living life with skill.” Many people have common sense, but, it takes deep insight to tackle some of the more complicated problems in life. That’s when you look for people who have wisdom. One of those “Go to” men is Glenn Yamaguchi.
“Sing for joy in the Lord, O you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright.” Psalm 33:1
