Teresa Avina was born in Zacatecas, Mexico. A few years after her father’s accidental death, her family migrated to the United States. She was raised in Dallas, Texas and joined the United States Marine Corps after high school. While in the military she married her former husband of 12 years. Teresa has experienced different peoples and cultures by living in North and South Carolina, Okinawa, Japan, California, Wisconsin, and Ohio.
In 2005, Teresa separated from her husband and then divorced the following year. She retained custody of the three small children. At the time of the separation, she was a stay at home mom; did not have a job or a source of income and the closest family lived a thousand miles away. It was during this time that Teresa turned to the Lord for help. God answered by providing a job and providing for their physical needs and emotional healing.
While maintaining a full time job and raising her 3 children, Teresa actively participated in the Children’s and Facilities ministry at World Harvest Church. In addition and through God’s grace, she was also able to attain a Bachelor degree in Accounting (14 years). Teresa worked for the State of Ohio as a Compliance Auditor before accepting a job with the Navy as Auditor for Pacific Fleet in December 2012.
Teresa Avina is the head of the new Single Moms and Dads Ministry at New Hope Oahu. The purpose of this ministry is to communicate the effective Word of God specifically as it pertains to single parent in today’s society. As Single Moms and Dads united in fellowship and come into a unified agreement, families will be healed and God’s perfect plan will be realized in their lives. Soon upon her arrival to Hawaii she became a member of New Hope Oahu. Teresa now lives with her children Cynthia, Grace, and Andrew.
